Mistake 1
The Grasshopper Mentality
The principal mistake I see novice internet marketers is jumping from one area of online business to another. Simply because you wish to make money online does not mean that the disciplines and skills that you need to be successful in the Google Adsense area are the same skills that you will need to use for affiliate marketing, cost per action programs or any of the other opportunities that present themselves.
You must decide at the outset what area you will specialize in initially and concentrate on that area and master the necessary skills. Then, and only then, should you consider broadening your horizons to the other areas in which you can profit. But you must avoid the grasshopper mentality and end up with a fuzzy, unclear business model which falls between a few different stools.
So choose your poison carefully, acquire the necessary skills, observe the leaders in that area of activity, execute your plan of action and rinse/repeat.
Mistake 2
Believing the hype.
Don’t believe the hype-treat every exalted and exaggerated promise with the respect it deserves. Sales letters from other internet marketers are designed to part you from your money and they are incredibly well crafted pieces of writing designed to push every hot emotional button that you have.
Your best ally in the war on internet marketing is a healthy dose of scepticism.
In summary, decide after careful analysis what area you are going to throw yourself into and do not be distracted by the siren promises of the various sales letters you will encounter. Formulate your plan, execute and every decision you make should be looked at after answering one key question-“does this activity fit into my overall plan or not”. If it does not, ditch it and don’t waste your time.
